These are the words that caught my attention when I first came across this article. I wrote them into a notebook I had bought to begin a new collaboration with a writer living with disability. Her health often disAbles her desire to meet the work fully each week and her actual capacity on any given day fluctuating from week to week; so we adapt.

As the weeks passed - I looked at this article again and thought about these opening words in terms of my role as mentor to this artist and as a way of working with ANYbody. The words became verbs -

“To listen. To hone. To translate and through Acceptance ENABLE the individual to work to THEIR capacity. To meet each day and the work as a constantly shifting and UNpredictable conversation.”

When seen through this lens, the ideas this article puts forward, feel useful to ANYbody. They also reflect my experience of living and working with DIVERSITY, which constantly offers me the opportunity to remain open to each moment, each day, each context as it presents itself, and to stay curious.

Further, the article offered this very open question -

"What am I / are YOU / WE, capable of meeting in THIS day?"

With this question comes the invitation and the challenge to Listen. Hone. + Adapt through an acceptance of what is actually happening.
